Can you believe it’s October 1 already? I’m still trying to get over it. Perhaps to contemplate the rapid passage of time, I can allow myself an evening cup of coffee (since it is International Coffee Day today). Speaking of time…the weekend is almost upon us, and so I hope you will enjoy one of this weekend’s suggested activities. FRIDAY, October 2

Nyack Outdoor Shopping and Dining Enjoy great food and live music outdoors in downtown Nyack  from 5pm to 10pm.

SATURDAY, October 3

Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture Booking in advance is required, and expect a $50 fee for this intimate tour of one of the most well-known working farms and centers of education in Westchester. You may recognize the name in association with the famed Blue Hill restaurant located on the property.


Mount Gulian Historical Site Located in Beacon, this 18th Century Dutch Manor House is now open for outside tours every Friday and Saturday through October. There is an admission fee of $10 for adults, $8 seniors, $5 children (ages 6-18); free for children under 6.

SUNDAY, October 4

Westchester County Militia Garrison Day at Fort Montgomery State Historical Site See the troops of the 3rd Westchester County Militia Regiment as they provide a window into the historical realities of the Revolutionary War.

The Bronx Night Market  A celebration of the borough’s diversity of culture and cuisine. Saturdays and Sundays through October and November from 12pm to 6pm at Fordham Plaza.

World Migratory Bird Day is just around the corner: October 10th. So flap on over now to visit Feed The Birds, a most unique store exclusively dedicated to celebrating our fine feathered friends. There’s an array of feeders, food products and bird-related gift items to provide nourishment for birds and happiness for humans. A great shop for kids as well!
